On July 29th, 1932, the Bonus Expeditionary Forces left, or rather, were driven out of Washington, D.C. without the satisfaction of achieving their initial goal--to obtain a cash bonus in compensation for their military efforts during WWI. Their fight, however, was by no means carried out in vain. The March of the Bonus Army marked one of the first major instances of U.S. citizens standing up to their government to demand change, providing the precedent for later marches on the capital hoping to do the same.
